Padel rules explained simply: Everything you need to know
Padel is easy to learn, but if you don't know the rules, you'll quickly lose track of things. So that you can get started right away, we'll explain the most important Padel rules to you in a clear and concise way.
The playing field
Padel is played on a 10x20 meter court that is surrounded by glass and mesh walls. Unlike in tennis, these walls can be used in the game.
The counting method
As in tennis, the scoring is: 15, 30, 40, advantage and game. A set goes to 6 games, with a minimum difference of 2 games. At 6:6, a tiebreak is played.
The surcharge
- Played from below (below hip height).
- The ball must first bounce on your own court before being played into the diagonal service court.
- If the ball hits the wall before it bounces, the serve is invalid.
The ball is in play.
After bouncing once, the ball may touch the wall and then be played back. Direct contact with the wall without ground contact is not allowed.
Change of surcharge
As in tennis, the right to serve changes after each game. Within a team, the partners serve alternately.
Conclusion
The rules of padel are easy to understand and make the sport particularly beginner-friendly. The best way to learn them is by simply playing and trying things out.
