The Winner's Checklist: How to Prepare for a Padel Match

The best players leave nothing to chance. An important match isn't decided only on the court, but in the hours and minutes beforehand. With the right preparation, you'll not only be physically fit, but also mentally strong going into the game. Here's your ultimate checklist.

Phase 1: The day before the match

  • Check your equipment: Is your favorite racket in good condition? Do you have a fresh grip tape ? Are your Padel shoes and your outfit from The Padel Society in your bag? Good racket care prevents unpleasant surprises.
  • Light, carbohydrate-rich food: Refuel your energy stores with pasta, rice, or potatoes. Avoid heavy, fatty food.
  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Your muscles will thank you.
  • Good sleep: 7-8 hours of sleep are essential for physical and mental regeneration. It's not an option, it's a must!

Phase 2: The Match Day (3-4 hours beforehand)

  • The right meal: Eat your last larger meal about 3 hours before the game. Again, easily digestible carbohydrates and some protein. A small snack (banana, muesli bar) is okay up to an hour beforehand. More tips can be found in our nutrition guide .
  • Mental preparation: Visualize the game. Go through your strengths and your team's tactics in your head. Concentrate on positive processes. This strengthens your mental game .
  • Partner Briefing: Give your partner a quick call or meet up early. Discuss your tactics: Who covers the middle? What's the plan against these specific opponents?

Phase 3: Immediately before the match (30 minutes beforehand)

  • Be on time: Arrive, get changed, arrive. Hectic activity is the biggest enemy of concentration.
  • The right warm-up: Start with a 10-15 minute dynamic warm-up . Get your circulation going and your muscles up to operating temperature.
  • Focus on your warm-up: Don't use the 5 minutes of warm-up time for hitting the ball around. Practice all your basic strokes cleanly, test your volleys and a few smashes. Find your rhythm.

Conclusion: Preparation is half the battle.

If you follow this checklist, you'll go into the match with a huge advantage. You'll not only be physically prepared, but you'll also have a clear head and a plan. This will give you the confidence and self-assurance to play your best padel.
