Padel Racket Guide 2025: Find the perfect racket for your game.
The selection of paddle rackets is huge – and the differences are often hard to see. Round, teardrop or diamond? Hard or soft? Light or heavy? The decision for the right racket has a big influence on the feeling of the game, control and power on the court.
In this guide, you'll learn what really matters and how to find the ideal paddle tennis racket for your skill level – whether you're just starting out or already playing regularly.
The 3 key factors: Shape, weight & balance
Before you decide on a model, you should know these three points. They determine how your racket feels – and how you play:
- Shape: This determines where the sweet spot is (i.e. the ideal point of contact) and whether your racket offers more power or control.
- Weight: Lightweight rackets (approx. 350–365 g) are more maneuverable, while heavier ones (up to 390 g) offer more power.
- Balance: Indicates whether the center of gravity is at the top (head-heavy), bottom (grip-heavy), or in the middle – this affects power & handling.
The shapes of the rackets explained
The shape is the most striking feature – and the easiest way to find the right racket.
All around: Control & Safety (for beginners)
Round rackets are ideal for beginners. The large sweet spot is centrally located, and the grip-heavy balance ensures easy handling and maximum control.
- Advantages: High error forgiveness, precise shots, comfortable playing experience.
- Disadvantages: Less power in offensive shots.
- Ideal for: Beginners or players who value control and stability.
Drops: Pure versatility (for advanced users)
The teardrop shape – often also called the teardrop form – is the all-rounder among padel rackets. The sweet spot is located a little higher, which provides more power without losing too much control.
- Advantages: Perfect balance between power and control.
- Disadvantages: Requires a little more technique and timing.
- Ideal for: Advanced players who want to be able to act flexibly.
Diamond: Maximum Power (for professionals)
Diamond rackets are for experienced players who want to dominate the game. Their small sweet spot is located high on the head, generating enormous power – but at the expense of control.
- Advantages: Explosive power in smashes and overheads.
- Disadvantages: Less forgiving of errors, demanding to handle.
- Ideal for: Offensive players with strong technique.
Material Check: What's inside the racket?
- Core: EVA rubber provides power and durability, FOAM (foam) provides comfort and a better ball feel. Many models use soft-EVA as an ideal compromise.
- Surface (Face): Fiberglass is flexible and provides cushioning – perfect for beginners. Carbon, on the other hand, is stiffer, more direct, and delivers noticeably more power. For advanced users, carbon is the best choice.
Our Recommendations 2025
Beginner: Control & Comfort
A round racket with a fiberglass surface and a soft EVA core (350–365 g) offers ideal control and comfort. Brands such as Nox, Bullpadel, Head or Adidas are particularly recommended here.
Advanced: Precision & Power
A teardrop-shaped racket (approx. 365–375 g) with a carbon surface (e.g. 3K or 12K carbon) and a medium-hard core delivers more power without losing control – perfect for ambitious players.
Conclusion: Your perfect padel racket
There isn't "one best racket," but rather the racket that best suits your game. Beginners are well advised to start with a round model. As experience grows, teardrop or diamond shapes are worthwhile for refining one's game.
Tip: If possible, test rackets before buying them. Many clubs or shops offer rental rackets – the feel of the game is ultimately the deciding factor.
Good luck with the election – and see you soon on the court!
